What is the difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is an internationally-recognized therapy technique for treating mental and emotional issues. Along with a cognitive (awake and aware) portion of a therapy session, we use hypnosis to break through the filters of the rational mind and access the subconscious to gain control over the difficulties and presenting issue a client is dealing with, to enable positive change.

What if I can’t be hypnotized?
Anybody who is willing can be hypnotized. Hypnosis is a natural altered state of mind (deeply focused, relaxed, accessible to the subconscious mind’s resources) that is accessed by everyone to some level throughout the course of the day. As all people differ, they also differ in HOW they can be induced into hypnosis. Sometimes, it takes trial and error. Sometimes we have to break down some barriers (usually a subconscious choice based in fear and control discomforts), but we will find the way that works for you.

What does hypnosis feel like?
Most people describe hypnosis during hypnotherapy as being in a physically calm and relaxed, and mentally relaxed and open state, in which they can focus deeply on their thoughts and emotions. Sometimes, the client is fully aware of their surroundings, sometimes it all seems to slip away into relaxation. Depth of hypnosis can vary. Everybody experiences hypnosis in their own, unique way.

Will you make me cluck like a chicken?
I don’t know… do you WANT to cluck like a chicken 😀 ?
Okay, the real answer is that this is NOT stage hypnosis. Only about ½ the population will succumb to the rapid techniques that a stage or entertainment hypnotist will use. They try to choose very specific individuals with very specific traits. Their goal is not to provide help and therapy, but to create rapid entertainment.Fine Tuned Mind Hypnotherapy is all about helping you, and we work with you to create positive change in your life.
Now, if that means you’d like to cluck like a chicken… we won’t judge! 😉

Will I lose control?
No. Never. Hypnosis is deep, relaxed focus. You can always hear and understand what’s going on. In fact, everybody enters a hypnotic state upon falling asleep and wakening (and quite often during the day, for most). You can communicate, you can stop the process, you can “wake up”, and you are IN control. We are always monitoring your comfort during hypnosis.

Does hypnotherapy work?
Since the 1950’s, hypnotherapy has been accepted as efficacious by the British Medical Association and the American Medical Association. According to the British Medical Association: “For the past hundred years there has been an abundance of evidence that psychological and physiological changes could be produced by hypnotism which were worth study on their own account, and also that such changes might be of great service in the treatment of patients.” (J. Fadul (General Editor), Encyclopedia of Theory & Practice in Psychotherapy & Counseling, ©2014)

Why is it hypnotherapy so effective?
Because we’re accessing your subconscious mind to enact change. Based on the studies of numerous cognitive neuroscientists, our subconscious controls over 95% of our brain power.

How is hypnotherapy different from “traditional” methods?
With hypnotherapy, there is a focus on depth and speed of treatment. Through various techniques and methodologies, hypnotherapist can access the subconscious mind more directly and quickly than traditional methods. While traditional methods are excellent and encouraged (required, in some cases), a hypnotherapy session may be effective in as little as one session (results will vary).

Is hypnotherapy guaranteed/warrantied to work?
Hypnotherapy is not warrantied, because it is a collaborative treatment. No hypnotherapist can guarantee a specific outcome, because change requires some level of work and commitment on the part of the client. The change is the result of a collaborative effort. You, the client, must be truly willing to change, and follow simple instructions and practice in enabling that change. As everybody is individual, no  specific outcome can be guaranteed, just as medical and mental health practitioners can guarantee that a patient will get well.
However, hypnotherapy has a proven record of success for clients who do wish to elicit positive change in their life.

How long will my treatment take?
Just as individual needs and issues vary, so do the number of sessions required to resolve them. While we offer packages, and some of our “Plans” can be completed in as few as 1-3 sessions, your success depends on your adherence to the use of the tools and practices we determine will help your situation. Often, the therapeutic process works by “peeling the onion” to expose underlying causes and resolve them so we can achieve your goals.

Will my insurance pay for my hypnotherapy?
Some providers will cover hypnotherapy for certain conditions (eg: Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, and United Health Care). Please check with your provider for more details. Almost every HSA (Health Savings Account) will allow for hypnotherapy treatments, when recommended by your health provider. Please note that California does not issue licensure for hypnotherapists, and your insurance may ONLY cover hypnotherapy from licensed practitioners (eg.: LCSW, Psychiatrist, Psychologist).
